FULL BIO
I grew up in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a suburban city outside of Detroit. After graduating from James Madison College at Michigan State University, I went to the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) to become a rabbi. At JTS, I was a Gladstein Fellow spending my final three years as an intern at Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell, NJ. I also traveled monthly to Leesburg, Virginia to lead a new synagogue. During my senior year of Rabbinical School, I was president of the student body and won the Goldstein Prize for Leadership. In January 2010, I was named the JDate Rabbi of the Month.
I am now the year-round Rabbi of Tamarack Camps. I also serve as the Director of a weekly informal education program for Jewish teens called ATID: Alliance for Teens in Detroit. I really enjoy working with Jewish youth, but still want to lead a congregation as well. So, I am the part-time Rabbi of Congregation T'chiyah in Oak Park, Michigan.
One of my responsibilities at Tamarack Camps is to oversee the kosher kitchens on our 1,800 acre property. This led me to create Kosher Michigan, a kosher supervision and certification initiative. My goal is to increase the number of local kosher options for my community.
I serve on several local boards, including JARC, a Jewish residential services program for people with developmental disabilities. I am an alum of the STAR Foundation's PEER program and am proud to be a CLAL Rabbis Without Borders fellow. I am interested in how modern technology affects the global Jewish community, and I advise the International Rabbinical Assembly on technology and social media issues.
My wife and I are the proud parents of three children.
